Azerbaijan Arbitration Days: Baku Arbitration Center Officially Launches
The Baku Arbitration Center (BAC), established on February 19, 2025, has officially commenced its operations. The center has been registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan and was founded by Professor Kamala Mehdiyeva, a law professor at Paris-Est Créteil University and Chair of the Azerbaijan Arbitration Association.
The inauguration of the center took place during the Azerbaijan Arbitration Days held on October 24–25, 2025. The international event brought together representatives from over 70 countries and more than 600 participants.
In her speech, Kamala Mehdiyeva noted that the Baku Arbitration Center has been established in accordance with international standards and that its arbitration rules are already in place. Minister of Justice Farid Ahmadov emphasized that a new generation of lawyers specialized in international arbitration has emerged in Azerbaijan, strengthening the country’s legal system on the global stage.
Former President of the European Council Charles Michel described arbitration as “a symbol of trust, peace, and the rule of law,” highlighting its importance as a flexible and transparent dispute resolution mechanism. Maria Chiara Malaguti, former President of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law, noted that the Baku Arbitration Center holds strategic significance for the region and will support economic integration.
Conference participants unanimously stressed that the Azerbaijan Arbitration Days will promote the development of arbitration culture, enhance the business environment, and strengthen the country’s position in the international legal arena.
